This quote is from a man who’s probably solely responsible for creating some of the most well-known psychological concepts to date. He was a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist, and according to some, even a mystic.
But enough about Carl. This quote is for you.
Too often, people allow life’s circumstances to determine who/what they’ll be as opposed to making that distinction themselves. It’s something we’ve all fallen prey to, myself included, only because it’s really easy to just let life’s varied occurrences be the end-all to who we are.
But I’m here to remind you that the very definition of life is…well…there actually isn’t just one, finite, concrete definition for it. Everyone’s life is different.
Because everyone’s life is simply what they choose to make it.
So don’t make your life, or your identity, all about what has (or hasn’t) happened to you. Make it whatever the hell you want it to be.
You are not your circumstances. You are, however, what you choose to become.
